[Solved]Android crashes using USB cable to connect with LM17

Post by Domas »

When I try to connect my phone to Linux Mint 17 via USB cable it crashes 2 seconds after the connection. I can see notification on the phone that it connected and that's it. If I do not unplug phone from computer the infinite loop begins where phone turns on and immediately crashes again.

I'm using Linux Mint 17 64bit Cinnamon. I have installed libmtp-runtime, libmtp-common, mtpfs packages.

Phone is NEC Terrain running Android 4.0.4. It's an AT&T phone. Debugging mode is On.

I tried:
connect my phone to a Win 7 64 bit machine (worked).
system restore on android (thought some apps that I Install or disabled prior may be interfering).
connect on Ubuntu loaded from USB stick (same results as on LM 17).

This is my first android phone so maybe I'm doing something wrong. Do I need some app on the phone to meke the connection?
I tried searching on google, haven't found anything useful.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Edit: So I tried to connect my phone to Elementary OS (loaded from USB stick) and it worked. Can somebody tell me why this is happening? What could be the cause of this?

Edit2: So I found the problem. It's "ModemManager". Update, downgrade, disable or completely remove it and phone will stop crashing.

Hi,

did you try upgrading your android to 4.4? Seems a lot of these problems are gone?

I can't. No one in XDA forums was able to root NEC Terrain and AT&T has not release official update (I doubt they ever will).

And it's not a problem anymore. I'm in progress of setting Elementary OS up. I Think I should mark thread as solved. :)
