Im trying a friends webam out to see if it works on mint. It is a no name type, and i didn't expect much but when i plugged it in i got:

Code: Select all

[ 4102.196703] usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2
[ 4102.403950] usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[ 4102.616744] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 4102.656391] zc0301: V4L2 driver for ZC0301[P] Image Processor and Control Chip v1:1.10
[ 4102.657885] usb 1-2: ZC0301[P] Image Processor and Control Chip detected (vid/pid 0x0AC8:0x301B)
[ 4102.752777] usb 1-2: PB-0330 image sensor detected
[ 4103.306727] usb 1-2: Initialization succeeded
[ 4103.306790] usb 1-2: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video0
[ 4103.306817] usbcore: registered new interface driver zc0301
[ 4103.414390] usbcore: registered new interface driver gspca
[ 4103.415440] /build/buildd/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-2.6.24/debian/build/build-generic/media/gspcav1/gspca_core.c: gspca driver 01.00.20 registered
So it finds and registers it as a video device, v4l2. But when i open Camorama or Cheese or Skype it cant open it. Is it because its a v4l2 not v4l1 or something? Can anyone give some words of wisdom?

The keywords here are
zc0301 and
gspca
Do some searching for them and you may find a driver to download
gspca in Synaptic is only source and for zc0301 nothing
