Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card missing

Postby zen_tral on Mon Oct 13, 2008 2:27 pm

Hi all, after a fresh installation of Mint 5 KDE I was pleasantly surprise at the great job that the distro did at detecting and configuring all hardware on my acer 5920 laptop, everything worked really well out of the box.
However after a few days of enjoying using the distro my wireless card disappeared form the Knetworkmanager configuration options, it is like if it does not exist anymore.
Does anybody have had the same issue or have any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, and for this great distro!

P.s: the command "iwconfig" reports no wireless extension.

Another piece of information: the command "lshw -C network" reports the presence of the wireless card but it declares - *-network UNCLAIMED.

Perhaps this will help, perhaps not, but does your laptop have a switch on it, that turns on or off wifi access? Make sure that it's turned on.
I have had this same issue once on another distro, (suse I think) and when I switched it back on, everything was fine again. You may have
to reboot for the effects to take place, but I doubt it.

Perhaps even reinstalling the drivers might help. I have that same card on another laptop, and have had no issues with it yet.

Thanks for the reply JesterDev; yes the switch is on, in fact if I use the life CD wireless works perfectly, so the issue may be due to one of the updates or maybe something that I did (most likely...lol)
How could I got about reinstalling the drivers?
Thanks again.

Same problem here. I'd downloaded the intel opensource drivers but the installation procedure is confusing. Does anyone know an easy way to install the driver? Thanks.

Nevermind, it's working now after I boot from liveDVD.
