HP Compaq Presario CQ57-375SQ questions

Post by MasterF »

Hi all,

I'm planning on installing Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon on my girlfriend's laptop (model in title).
However, before I do that, I would like to know the following:
1. Are there any known issues with this hardware? (AMD E-300 APU with Radeon HD 6310M, Ralink wireless). Full specs here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... 178999#N45
A Google search does show up some issues, but they are rather old (2011-2012) which seems like a really long time in the Linux world.

2. Would you recommend the 32-bit or 64-bit edition? I'm leaning towards 32-bit since this laptop has only 2GB of RAM.

3. Would you recommend installing the proprietary AMD drivers?

Thank you in advance for any feed-back.

Mint 17 Cinnamon should work fine.
64 bit is preferable to 32 bit, IMHO.
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Linux Linx 2018
