nVidia "legacy" video support

Postby belovedmonster on Sat Oct 25, 2008 1:08 pm

I see that my old nVidia graphics card is no longer supported in the up coming Ubuntu 8.10, not for 3D acceleration anyways. See here. Will this be the same for Mint 6? I'm guessing it will be using the same X.Org as in Intrepid.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I'm afraid you will own a legacy card....
Ouch
Users with the nVidia TNT, TNT2, TNT Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets are affected and will be transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver instead.

Lots of nvidia cards can't use that driver but perhaps these older cards can and I think it's more pci-express cards than AGP cards that are affected - let's just hope....

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

I wonder if its time to upgrade my GeForce4 MX card. It was pretty much bottom of the range even 4 years ago.
