Soundcards (USB) - Recommendations for compatibility?

Postby Pipps on Sat Oct 25, 2008 1:57 pm

Hello!

Are there any particular external USB soundcards which are readily compatible with Linux Mint?

I currently have an M-Audio Transit which presented immense difficulty when I attempted to use it with Ubuntu, recently. I would rather not have the same labourous experience with my imminent Mint installation on my new MSI Wind.

So I would be delighted to hear about any alternative external USB soundcards which have proven to provide practically 'plug-n-play' style compatibility with the Mint distribution.

Or indeed, whether there are any soundcards on the market today which are supplied with easy-to-install Linux drivers.

Or, perhaps, even if anyone has a simple method of making the M-Audio Transit USB work within Mint?

I look forward to any responses, and thank you for your time.

Kind regards

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I don't know if this will help but I got my plantronics usb sound card to work by following these steps I found in an old ubuntu forum post.

1. sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
2. Edited "options snd-usb-audio index=-2" to "options snd-usb-audio index=-1"
3. Saved
4. Rebooted.

Except mint comes with the vi editor.
sudo vi /ect/modprobe.d/alsa-base

My head set works great now. I have not tested the mic yet so I don't know about it. Hope that helps.
