Mint comes with Compiz-Fusion installed. Anything Aero can do, Compiz-Fusion can do and more. You need a 3D-capable graphics card. Go into MintMenu > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects and select something like Extra or Custom. Now go to MintMenu > Preferences > Simple Compiz Config Settings and click the Animations tab and click Enable Animations. Click the Effects tab and select Flip Switcher from the Switcher drop-down menu. Also enable Blur. Also, up top is a dropdown menu with 'Default'; you may wish to set that to High effects or even Hollywood Got Nothing

Okay, go to MintMenu > Preferences > Compiz Config Settings Manager, lots of goodies to choose from here. Select Trailfocus Windows.

Now you will have the 3D application switcher and the transluscent windows, just like Vista Aero. I prefer my windows without Blur, as I like the crisp effect of the fully transluscent windows.

But wait, there's more! If you go back to Simple Compiz Config and back to the Effects tab and the Switcher dropdown menu, you'll see Cover Switcher, which flips your windows like the cover previewer of iTunes. Then there's Ring Switcher (which is arguably the fastest of the switchers), which rotates your windows around in a ring. Try grabbing one of your windows and moving it around - Wobbly Windows is usually enabled but if it isn't, go back to Compiz Config Settings Manager and find all the fun eye-candy toys to play with, like Paint with Fire, Water Effects, Wobbly Windows, and the ever-popular Desktop Cube.

Have fun!!
