The system sound is not working... solved

Postby dakochan on Fri Oct 31, 2008 10:29 pm

Hi,

I'm using Linux Mint 4.0 on my notebook Compaq V3000. From the start I installed Linux Mint I've never had any problem with the system soundcard. Actually, it worked perfectly.
A few days ago, I tried to test gOS 3.0 live CD on the notebook. It worked normally, including the sound, except the wireless, but it was fine. I watched a short movie using the gOS. After a while I restarted the system and went back to my Linux Mint. But, I'm surprise that the sound is not working. No sound at all. Nothing. :(
I tried to boot using the gOS live CD again. It had the sound. It meant my hardware is ok, but my Linux Mint sound settings have problems.

Anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Make sure that you have not changed anything in Mint
It is not as strange as it seems (maybe stranger :)) because some software (Windows to name one) can do changes to the firmware
But I doubt Ubuntu (which gOS is based on like Mint) has a different capacity to do this
There is one thing - some old(er) notebooks must have the modem enabled to get sound - worth checking
And start gOS, check sound, shut down and let rest for 10 minutes or so and boot Mint again

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

To help you beyond this I need to know your hardware and exactly which version of Mint you use
Hardware - run lspci in a terminal

Hi Husse,

Just want to inform you, the sound is working now, but I don't know what I've done.
I feel a bit spooky...

Anyway, thanks for your effort.

Regards,
Dakochan
