Hi!

I`ve installed Linux Mint a week ago, and today i found out, that only one device can use my soundcard at a time. So if i run xmms and play music - there aren`t any sounds at skype, if i watch a movie in a Totem and try to run xmms it says:
" Please check that:
Your soundcard is configured properly
You have the correct output plugin selected
No other program is blocking the soundcard"

and also i don`t hear any sounds in skype.

i`ve tried to switch plugins in "Preferences --> Sound", but when i press "test" it says: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could not open audio device for playback. Device is being used by another application."

I beleive you are using Elyssa & it uses Pulse Audio to manage sound sources & devices. Most of the applications support Pulse Audio except few like flash. So when you play flash, it takes control of audio device & when try to open an app that uses Pulse Audio, you get "no devices..." error. For more details, you may refer this thread on ubuntu forum (Refer the appendix section of the first posting):

Nope, it`s not when i use flash. As i described, it`s when any program uses my sound card, other programs are unable to do so. :( And yes, i use Elyssa.

I have the exact same board and the exact same problem. Odd part is I had ubuntu hardy installed before and no sound problems there.
