I know this has been asked many times, and I have browsed the replies and am going in circles.
I installed Elyssa, have an ATI card, and tried the envy route but all that got me was a 640x480 resolution. Then I tried the dpkg-reconfigure but there was no section in it regarding graphics card or monitor. Well when that finished I now can get up to 1280x800 resolution but that looks wierd and the bottom is out of sight so I use the next lower selection 1280x 7?? forgot the last number. Would like to get a 1280x1024 but can't seem to do that. Monitor is 17 inch flat panel and works at that level on others. I also downloaded ATI driver-installer and tried that but it didn't recognize x-server. As you can see my Linux experience is at the beginning of the ladder.
Anyone know a next step?

Re: ATI Help
Depends a bit on your ATI card but if it's a newer one it should actually work quite well (I have one in this computer)
Try
It's not in the menu for LTS reasons
Try
Code: Select all
gksu displayconfig-gtk
