Problem with Lenovo S10 Netbook

Postby [ GK ] on Tue Nov 25, 2008 4:15 pm

Hi,

I'm running Linux Mint Elyssa on my newly purchased Lenovo S10. Overall, it works great, with a major issue I'd like to address.

The problem is a real showstopper. The display will randomly blank while I'm using the computer. I does not power down, rather, it blanks as if the "blank screen" screensaver had just activated. This happens at least once a day. My Linux knowledge is limited, so the only way I know to get back to a working display is to Ctrl+Alt+F1, and sudo reboot. Not the best solution, obviously. :(

Here is the output of lspci:

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace may better but it wipes everything
What about Ctrl+Alt+F1 followed by Ctrl+Alt+F7? OK it brings you back to the same X but who knows
You have pretty standard hardware Intel 945 (ICH7) which works well under Linux
It's impossible to say anything about the cause of such an error - all sporadic errors are hard to diagnose but my guess is faulty hardware (overheating) or if it's software a buffer that gets filled
Sorry for not being of more help

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thank you, Husse.

I'm going to experiment a bit. I'll install *cough* Windows *cough* for a few days and see if the same problem surfaces there.
I may also try Linux Mint 6.
