desktop doesn't like Mint liveCD - can I still install?

Total Mint newbie.

IBM Intellistation circa 2002 (6850, dual Xeon, 2GB RAM, 4 scsi drives)

With no F6 + edits on intial splash screen, LiveCD won't finish (ends at busybox w/initramfs prompt)...
It DOES boot with F6 + all incantations at listed under '5 Motherboard problems' at ... ur_Live_CD (e.g., noapic, nolapic, acpi+off, pci=noacpi, irqpoll, all_generic_ide, pci=nomsi)... it seems to need ALL of these incantations

If I install Mint, will I be able to find out what motherboard or hardware problems are causing busbybox to get busy?

If so, where I do begin in order to find ways to problem-solve the issue(s)?
