I upgraded to Mint 6 (fresh install), and all seemed ok. I could listen to music, so I thought my sound was working. However when I tried to use skype, it said my audio playback wasn't working. When I switched to KDE4 to see if it was just a gnome problem, I saw a little message (displayed too shortly to remember all) that mentions that my nVidia something or other isn't working and it is switching to default. I didn't have this problem with Mint 5. Any ideas how I can better diagnose the problem and fix it? I'm just a basic user in linux.
Specs:
Dell Inpsiron 531 AMD X2 Processor 3800
2 GB DDR2 Ram
Video Card 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600GT
Integrated Sound Card with Dolby Digital 7.1 Function
Thanks,
Scott

Re: sound not working properly
I should have looked harder before I posted. I went over to Ubuntu Forums and found a solution already. Just use pulse for sound settings.
