No dvd in fstab

Postby mrmcanus on Thu Jan 01, 2009 2:58 pm

I recently installed a brand new hard drive. Dual boot with windows and linux mint felicia. I cannot play dvd's. It doesn't appear to show in fstab. Here is what I have.

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/host/mint/disks/root.disk / ext3 loop,errors=remount-ro 0 1
/host/mint/disks/boot /boot none bind 0 0
/host/mint/disks/swap.disk none swap loop,sw 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

Can I manually enter it in? It's not like windows where you can search for new hardware. What should I do? :?:

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi

The last line in your fstab file is the dvd player. Fstab is not your problem. Can you play DVD's in windows?

Sounds like a hardware problem to me if it will not play in either operating system. As you recently replaced your HDD have you checked that all your cables are plugged in and properly seated, otherwise you may need a new DVD.

Sorry- correction - I can play dvd's in windows and mint but It will only play certain dvd's. I can take a movie bought from the store and it will play but if I put in my daughters school play it will not. Is there some codec or permission or country code or something along the lines of that I need to change?

What format is the dvd in that will not play? Does it play in Windows? Not all DVD players will play all formats of DVD. Once again it sounds as though it is more of a hardware problem than software.
