[SOLVED] halt and suspend no longer working

Post by Achohr »

Hello everybody,

Last week my laptop decided to no longer go in suspend when the lid is closed. This used to work out of the box before.
When performing a software shutdown Mint closes as it should but reboots instead of completely halting. Curious fact is that suspend will actually turn off the screen but then turn it on again one second later so it is probably related.
I've been reading a bit on the forum and I might be guilty of updating using apt-get. It appears I am already running 17.2 though I have not done a distrib upgrade.

Here is my acpi setting:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
Here is what dmesg shows when trying suspend. From what I read it is inoffensive. I also cannot find a package with the name nsarguments

Code: Select all

Does this have something to do with it? My laptop is encrypted.

Code: Select all

censored@censored-HP-ZBook-15 ~ $ sudo swapon --all --verbose
swapon on /dev/mapper/mint--vg-swap_1
swapon: /dev/mapper/mint--vg-swap_1: read swap header failed: Invalid argument
swapon on /dev/mapper/cryptswap1
swapon: /dev/mapper/cryptswap1: stat failed: No such file or directory
censored@censored-HP-ZBook-15 ~ $ cat /proc/swaps

Hello all,

I managed to get suspend working again.
The issues started when I tried to install a driver for my fingerprint scanner. It appears the install script added a script to the directory /etc/pm/sleep.d called ValidityServiceSuspend.sh.
These scripts are executed every time your pc or laptop goes in suspend. Since the script was ported from an rpm it had issues and suspend did not finish correctly.
Halt does work and only causes a restart every so often now. I assume it has something to do with WOL so I'll deactivate that another time.

For the record, I first corrected the swap issues you read above and upgraded the firmware of my BIOS but to no avail.

Best regards
