LifeCam VX-1000 - is it UVC compatible?

The lsusb command is able to detect this camera, but when I try to use it with applications I get messages indicating that they cannot find the camera device. Also, does anyone know of Linux apps that are not Chat/IM type of applications that can accept input from webcams? Many apps in Windows can do this (for example, Irfanview, VideoStudio) but I have not found anything in Mint that will let me do that.

In fact, Mint does not seem to have much love for USB devices at all.

Here is output from lsusb...

Code: Select all

mint@mint ~ $ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 4855:7288 Memorex Ultra Traveldrive 160G 2.5" HDD
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:c03e Logitech, Inc. Premium Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 045e:00f7 Microsoft Corp. LifeCam VX-1000.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:0870 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Express
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
But the Memorex drive is not shown as a mount point in the file manager or in terminal (via the mount command) and neither of the two cameras is detected by any applications. I'm also not sure if any form of Jasper is built into Mint, or if it can be installed in Mint (because I could not find it in the package manager). The fact that it does not display the Memorex drive is made more ridiculous by the fact that this is the drive on which Mint is installed!

So, anyway, I know that the NX-6000 is supposed to be UVC compatible. How about the VX-1000?

According to this it is supported:

This is apparently a known bug and a fix is posted here:
