I've added this as a bug in the KDE edition. Hopefully you'll get an answer from someone more into KDE than me.

Welcome to the group Hooke,
There is a very good application for mounting and reading of partitions as well as pen drives. It is called KDiskFree or gtKdiskfree.
The second one can be downloaded by Adept or Synaptic. The only problem is that you wont find a quick-launch icon anywhere.
But open up a terminal or konsole and type: gtkdiskfree. Try it.

In my installation, though, my USB Pen Drive has been mounted automatically. :o

Change the mountpoint ... the backslash in it probably makes it fail.
