This is a fairly old chip - Intel has withdrawn support for it....
I think you should check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that you have (explicitly)
Driver = "intel"
This looks like the closest thing I've seen yet as an answer to a problem I have with my Intel 82865G graphics/Philips 190B monitor. But I still don't understand it - can you help please? I'm using Mint 6.
I want to improve resolution to the native 1284x1024. I can't get better than 1024x768, which looks horrible. I can get 1280x1024 on Puppy Linux, but not in the more sophisticated Linux Mint! I could easily get 1280x1024 by going back to Windows XP, but I'm hoping to persevere with the Linux OS. But not with the Puppy flavour - it doesn't cut it in other respects.
From what you've written above it seems I need to get into a file called xorg.conf and edit it. How do I find the file and how do I edit it?
