[solved] usb audio device

Anyone know how i can get my audio device to work again? I used to use it with skype and for a while it was perfect. I am suspicious it is the kernel that is causing the recording not to work any more as I can't get it to go on an updated install of Dapper.

Edgy or Mint doesn't work with it either.

Could you provide more details as to what is not working? Also what sound device are you using? I've used Skype in Edgy, Mint and several other Linux's with my integrated Realtek sound card. The biggest problems I had found were recording level issues, but they were easy to resolve.

it's a generic audio usb controller in the guise of a phone for skype. it is detected no problems and I can playback audio through its speaker.

when i select the sound prefernces and use the text buttons to text the playback and capture i get an error on the capture

i've just had a thought. running gconf editor and looking for any audio settings related to a folder called chat is non existent. how would i create a folder for it? only seem to be able to create keys, not sub folders.

I tried to duplicate this using my Logitech webcam w/ built-in microphone. I was able to use the microphone without any difficulty in Bea, fully updated. I know that doesn't really help any, I just wanted to let you know I tried. This link may prove useful. thanks, i'll give it another crack.

it's immensely disappointing, because it used to work. something has changed in Ubuntu since Dapper to stop it working.

it appears the USB hub is the cause of the audio phone not recording. If i place the phone into one of the traditional USB sockets on the computer it works just fine. If I place the phone in the 7 port USB hub it will not record and gives me that error message.
