PAE support in Mint 6's default 32-bit kernel

Postby aryonoco on Sun Mar 01, 2009 1:31 pm

Hi there,

I'm thinking about linux mint as my next OS, and was wondering if I should get the 32bit edition or the x86-64 edition.

My system has more than 4GB of ram, so in order to support that, either the Linux kernel has to be configured with PAE enabled, or I should use a 64-bit system. I was wondering if the default kernel which comes with linux mint 6 32-bit edition has PAE enabled? Does anyone here use it with more than 4GB of ram?

Sorry for asking this question in the hardware section, as I couldn't find any "kernel specific" section in the forum.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

No it does not have PAE
I think that has some drawbacks for users that don't need it
The 64 bit is almost exactly the same as main but on 64 bits :)

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
