nVidia will not rotate monitor

Postby douglasawh on Thu Mar 19, 2009 3:42 pm

I've been told that nVidia should be able to rotate my monitor if I'm using Xinerama. However, this does not appear to be the case. One interesting thing is that I can no longer open the "Screen Resolution" tool that Linux Mint provides. Right now, both monitors are VGA. I can move to both monitors being DVI if need be. If you can offer any suggestions as to how I can rotate the monitor on the right (the 24in monitor), that would be great. This is the greatest hold up keeping me on Vista at the moment. xorg.conf provided below. Thanks!

Code: Select all
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings:  version 1.0  (buildd@palmer)  Mon Nov  3 08:46:46 UTC 2008

# xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously
# in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings
# here are ignored.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
#   sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think this should be achieved by nvidia-settings
Code: Select all
gksu nvidia-settings

I no longer use nvidia but I remember that the Hardware drivers tool (jockey) in the menu did not install nvidia-settings while envy does
You have not told us which version you use but I presume Felicia main
Code: Select all
sudo envyng -t

The GUI for envy did not fit on the live CD we had to be CLI only
Here's a link mostly for my reference

Yeah, Felicia. I was using nvidia-settings. The issue appears to be that if you have dual monitors you cannot rotate. I am told (via identica, I believe) that rotation can only happen on a single monitor. I officially gave up and just have two unrotated monitors. It's sad and at some point in the future (perhaps the next version of Mint) I'll give it another go.

The display system - if one can call it that - is evolving and it's not at all improbable that it will be possible in the future
