Screen resolution / graphics driver

Postby qaskari on Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:34 am

Hi. Maybe I should post this in the Newbie forum as I am certainly a newbie. I have installed Linux Mint just today on a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ2345D. Everything seems fine except for the graphics. My screen resolution does not go above 1024 x 600. While in Vista it goes up to 1280 x 800. The Display Adapter under Vista Device Manager is Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi

Welcome to Mint.

Did you run the live cd before you installed and if so were the graphics OK?

Could you post the output from your xorg.conf file. This found @/etc/x11/xorg.conf.

Thanks for the response. I came across an answer elsewhere on the forums that seems to have done the trick. Live CD was working fine initially but I had to switch to compatibility mode to install (partitioner was not working when installing through normal mode). And the screen resolution problem was there in Live CD compatibility mode as well.

The fix was an addition of a line and a section in xorg.conf. If there is a better fix please do let me know. Here is my current xorg.conf which seems to be working.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Option "monitor-TV" "TV" (Added this line and deleted Driver "vesa")
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
(Added this section)
Identifier "TV"

Option "Ignore" "True"

EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

If it works for you stick with it.

How-ever you may want to have a look at this post which is very similar to your problem.
