Your wireless connector has a broadcom chip and so the following should work for you.

Okay, so you have a Broadcom wireless card.

do
sudo apt-get update

while still connected to router with ethernet cable

then go Menu --> Administration --> Hardware Drivers

You should see an option for Broadcom. Select and install.
Then you should be able to connect without cable =)
