Mint CPU support

Hi,

I am thinking about getting myself an old mid-range server to use as a test PC or workstation.
These computers are most likely to have Xeon/Opteron CPU's, or maybe even IBM PowerPC.

I guess Linux Mint will run on these CPU's, since it is based on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. Debian runs on every CPU I can name, even on sparc and other exotic ones. But then you need a special Debian CD for sparc.

When I download a new Mint version, i get to choose between 64 and 32 bit. Does this mean that those versions will work with Xeon/Opteron? (the latest being 64 bit)
I just like to have this confirmed, i don't want to buy something that doesn't run Linux Mint, even if it is cheap.

Mint runs on 32 or 64 bit x86 CPUs
No other architecture than x86 but I think all of them
Of course I can't for sure tell you how well it'll run on a 4 kernel CPU, but runs well on two kernel ones - but hat is not the type you're after :)

So I shouldn't expect PowerPC te work?

The plan was to obtain an older mid range server, which will at best have a dual core CPU.

Can anyone confirm that Mint works with Xeon/Opteron?
