Microphone on Lenovo S10

I installed Mint 6 on a Lenovo S10e netbook and all-over it was a pleasant and surprise-free experience. I was impressed that most (all?) special keys for controlling sound, screen brightness, etc. worked without any issue, an external 16 GB SDHC card is automatically detected and wireless networking with WPA was a breeze.

But there is one remaining issue with the sound: the built-in microphone does not work. following suggestions for Ubuntu installations on netbooks, I installed ALSA 1.0.18 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/i38 ... 8-1ubuntu2), but I still didn't find settings that worked.
I now use an external headset and microphone for Skype (needed to set 'sound in' to HDA intel, 'sound out' to pulse) and that is a workaround. Video worked flawlessly from the beginning.

I am curious to hear if anyone else got around this issue.

You did not really provide enough info but then I saw HDA
If it's HDA7 and newer this may be the solution
