I recently bought a new laptop, and it's kind of new to me. I've never been able to use compiz/emerald before, and this one is also 64-bit (which is the version of Mint 6 I'm using).
The troubles I'm having, I think, is caused by Compiz. Sometimes when I'm changing settings via CCSM, my laptop will lock up and I'll have to force a shutdown. Other times, it'll simply be a weird graphics glitch on my screen. Usually they make the laptop lock up, however some are minuscule and allow me to use the laptop still. Here's an example of one that doesn't lock my computer up:
Are there certain things I should have installed before running compiz?
Also, what about the ubuntu-restricted-extras? Should I install that, or no?
Don't think it's the Compiz theory anymore. I've disabled it, and while running metacity, I got this:
Also, I have the Nvidia Accelerated Graphics Driver (Version 180) installed. This keeps happening to me also (the weird white text with black background).
