Locking up/freezing

I did not see the problem with the screenshot so I let miket look at it
There should be a setting in Compiz to stop apps opening up under the panel - there are a ton of Compiz settings

hi,

if Husse and miket's suggestion doesn't help,
perhaps try downgrading your nvidia driver version to 177 or 173.

I had a similar issue and that fixed it for me.
