I am considering purchasing a TV tuner for my HP Pavilion a6000n PC. I am currently tri-booting Mint 6, Windows Vista Home Premium and Mandriva 2009.0.
I would like your recommendations on the best TV tuner to buy for my situation. I use Mint most of the time (probably about 85-90%), so it will have to be compatible.
I am looking for the following features, which I believe are fairly standard.
- Coax input
- RCA/S-Video input (without an RF adapter)
- Video output (coax, RCA/S-Video or HDMI)
- Ability to capture screen shots (in JPG or PNG format)
- Ability to record video input
My television service is currently provided by DirecTV, so it would be nice if I was able to use the device to watch/record DirecTV. I am not looking for a display adapter, as I am perfectly happy with the nVidia card that came with my computer. I would most likely be looking for a USB (or even firewire if such a thing exists) device, but would be okay with a PCI card, as long as it doesn't conflict with my nVidia display card. Below are the specs for the slots I have available on my motherboard. I also have one firewire input and I generally have one or two USB inputs available.
- 2 PCI slots (1 available),
- 1 PCI-E x16 slot (available),
- 1 PCI-E x1 slot (available)
I would appreciate any suggestions you have. I've seen the "compatibility" thread, but, since I'm looking to purchase a new one, I'd like to get the best, rather than just getting something that's compatible. Thank you.
