Hi
I agree with all the previous posts but
Just been looking at motherboards at my most reliable supplier, (I want to build another computer for ham radio), all the new ones
have only one IDE socket. I have plenty of spare IDE drives, and a spare DVD, but surely this would slow down the Hard disc? and would booting from Live CD would be slow?
Are they worth buying?
Suggestions welcome -Nick

SATA is marching in, so more and more there is only one IDE. No, your DVD would not be that harmful.
It's only when it is in use that it would slow down the hdd and they would simply share the bandwidth - a bit simplyfied
