recommend a 3g usb modem

Postby caprica2 on Wed May 27, 2009 2:56 pm

Hi,
I just installed Mint on my Dell mini and I love it. Much smoother installation than XP.
Unfortunately I have a Toshiba G450 3G USB modem that is NOT linux friendly.
Please recommend me a 3G modem that is zero effort on linux Mint.
Thanks so much.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hi, a follow-up:
I just received an unlocked Huawei 160G from eBay, and it works perfect!

I have a couple of questions:
How can I manually disconnect?
Is it safe to just remove the usb modem?
Thanks

how to disconnect 3G Huawei 160G modem

Postby pdc_2 on Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:53 am

we have a Huawei 160; and I have configured it using network manager; the overlapping computer screens icon on the panel: right-click; edit connections; select mobile broadband; add: select country: click; select network: click; finish;
back to network manager icon; left-click; mobile broadband now on list of options: click to connect; our 3G is very fast to tap into; when finished, click to disconnect; are there other ways that you would do it? We have also used this 160 on the Xandros 701; slower to configure; slower to set up; but works fine there too;
