No sound [Solved]

Postby Nicki on Thu May 28, 2009 9:55 am

I have a laptop HP Pavillion dv5 with no sound. The sound card is IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC.
Tried to go via Alsamixer and changed everything I could with no success.
Is there someone who can help me. This is the only thing that struggled for me.

Open Terminal
Type lspci -v | grep -i audio

If you get an output that looks something like this:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) ( it could be 82801G )
you might want to look at this:

We seem to be having an awful lot of sound problems with this release.

I got this:
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RV620 Audio device [Radeon HD 34xx Series]
Can you find out something of this?

I found a link in Ubuntu forum and added last in alsa-base.conf as follow:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
Now I have sound. :P
