Bluetooth mouse no pair in Gloria 32 and 64(SOLVED)

Post by Aging Technogeek »

I just bought a Microsoft Wireless Bluetooth Mouse 8000. When I try to pair it to my laptop (HP dv9500t - intel core 2 duo t7700, 2.4 Ghz, 2 Gib ram, 2 X 120 Gib hard drives, lnternal bluetooth) the Device wizard says it pairs but the mouse does not work. The searching indicator stays on and the pointer does not move when I move the mouse.

I tried all available pin number choices several times each in Gloria main and Gloria x64 RC1 without success.

The mouse pairs and works perfectly in Felicia main edition, so its not a dead battery or other mouse fault. Also, I can pair and use a bluetooth headset in Gloria (although it uses the main speaker audio feed instead of the headphone feed so speaker volume must be up to use headset) so the bluetooth software is not dead.

This isn't a deal breaker. I can continue to use my regular wireless mouse and wired headphones but, since I have them. it would be nice if the bluetooth units worked.

I'll take a look at this when I'm back from a short vacation trip

That's true, my bluetooth Microsoft 5000 worked on Mint 6 32 bit, now it doesn't work on Mint 7 64 bit anymore. I'm sure there's no wrong configuration by me.

The moderator in this forum uses Gloria and this topic is about Bluetooth mice but I'm not sure if Mint and Bluetooth meet

Husse,

Thanks for the effort but the link didn't help.

I've been wondering about something. Since the mouse pairs and works perfectly in Mint 6, is there a way to replace the Bluetooth software in Mint 7 with that from Mint 6? Or at least install the Mint 6 Bluetooth beside the Mint 7 version with the option to use either as required.

There should be a way to do that, but you would have to know the differences
There are more and more Blutooth questions so I'll start experimenting with my cell phone and laptop tomorrow
I'll also find the time to compare the two Mint versions then (time is in short supply - I work full hours apart from Mint)

There are quite a few Bluetooth questions in the forum now and as I know just about nothing about Bluetooth it's really hard to give advice
I found that there is a major change in the Bluetooth subsystem between Elyssa and Felicia but only changes in version between Felicia and Gloria so it should be possible to "go back" one version
You should only do this if you are comfortable with apt and/or Synaptic
You should follow my advice to the letter - but switching between apt and synaptic can of course be done - Synaptic is only a GUI for apt
You should know enough to copy files outside home
You should know enough to revert the changes to if this does not help
These reservations are there much for people that come across this solution
We can use the Felicia repos temporarily in Gloria
I provide a sources.list for Felicia below
Back up your present /etc/apt/sources.list
Use the file I provide, or your own if you still have it available, as sources.list
Now open Synaptic and refresh or do an apt update
Be very careful not to install any files except the ones we are after
Search for Bluetooth
Now we need a little trick
Mark each (installed) Bluetooth file you find and from the Package menu use "Force version" to get the Felicia/Intrepid files
Install them*
Then Lock version - it's also in the Package menu
Do it for all the packages you downgraded
Change the sources.list back to the original version (this is why it's so important to back it up in the first place)
Refresh or do an apt update
Done
Run mintUpdate and see what happens - you should not get updates to the Bluetooth files and you should not get updates to everything - then you have not changed the repos back
If you feel insecure ask me before you do anything
* Edit - apt-get (synaptic) should be smart enough to discover if it is not possible to install

Got everything working!

Added the Ubuntu repo for "Blueman" from here:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/blueman-bluet ... buntu.html

Installed "Blueman" via Synaptic ( slight location problem. See here : http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 77#p167356 for fix)

Opened Blueman ( open Bluetooth Manager in Preferences) and paired my mouse with no trouble.

Oh yes
Blueman
I recognize it, but without experience.....
Glad you did not have to use my somewhat clumsy solution

A big time for Mint 7! Thanks a lot, you recovered my bluetooth mouse.
the first step should be typing: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Yeah my MS 5000 BT mouse works now on my eeepc901. I already got the array.org eepc netbook kernel working.

Re: Bluetooth with Blueman

On Mint 8, installing Blueman from the repository works great. Install and run the blueman-applet. The programs are blueman-SOMETHING. Right clicking the bluetooth icon in the tray on Fluxbox CE shows a meny. Click Devices on the menu and put your device in discovery mode. Works like a charm. Entering the pairing number with Blueman works when the Gnome Bluetooth tool did not.
