I looked at your screenshot, why is it showing as 0% done ?, when do you determine the speed of writing for the device

Ok, so have you tried a reinstall of brasero, if the progress bar doesn't work, something is incorrect with the application or its install..

Using Imation cheaper type dvd-R media, Getting 4x speed approx for Sl dvd media, max speed for that type..Ran at normal max speed for that media..
