ffado firewire for audio interface

Postby SportSax on Wed Jun 24, 2009 9:35 pm

I am attempting to set up my Linux Mint 7 laptop for audio and midi functionality using an Audiofire Echo 2 firewire interface. I am getting Dbus server connection errors trying to start up JACK CONTROL and FFADO MIXER. I received this error with JACK:

This usually means:
a) The device-node /dev/raw1394 doesn't exists because you don't have a
(recognized) firewire controller.
b) The modules needed aren't loaded. This is not in the scope of ffado but of
your distribution, so if you have a firewire controller that should be
supported and the modules aren't loaded, file a bug with your distributions
bug tracker.
c) You don't have permissions to access /dev/raw1394. 'ls -l /dev/raw1394'
shows the device-node with its permissions, make sure you belong to the
right group and the group is allowed to access the device.

I'm not sure of the problem but suspect that I need to install "ffado-firewire-driver" and "libfaddo2" to get this going. I am new to linux. I tried the Synaptic Package Downloader but these packages do not show up. I think they were available with Ubuntu Gutsy. I tried using apt-get but it seems these are in a repository not available with Linux Mint.

Any help suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really like this distribution and all I need now is to get this firewire device up and going to have the whole package for my needs.

Best Regards,
Kevin

have you looked here?

http://www.ffado.org/

their download page is

http://www.ffado.org/?q=release/rc2

I note they say

"It is a work in progress, we are close, but we are not quite there yet. We are currently preparing the last beta releases before an official FFADO 2.0 release - your help with testing is very welcome!"
