Server question

Postby riversbooks on Wed Jun 24, 2009 11:20 pm

A friend offered me a Dell Power Edge 1600 SC server with a P4 CPU and plenty of Ram. I want to use it as a standalone desktop. I know that the USB is VS 1.1. My question is since I do not what to use this as a server, can I load Mint 7 as the OS and will it function as a regular PC?.
Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Good score! :D
I would suggest booting from the Live CD, to see if / how everything runs. Just check the BIOS to make sure the Boot priority is set to boot from CD first.
If it runs from the Live CD, test everything out before taking the plunge.(sound, ethernet, video, etc)
Most servers have weak vga cards, so you may want to check inside to see if there is room for an Add-On card.

Good luck, Richard

Don't know, yes if it runs Linux mint desktop
Dell has some drivers for Linux (Red Hat), if you find you need them

You might have to work it a little..
