Postby TacoMe on Fri Jul 17, 2009 7:58 pm

Greetings

First of all, I'm not a linux nerd but I know the basic things and further english is not my native language. so pleease speak clearly

I'm new to mint, and I got a serious problem. My USB harddrive just won't show up in gparted or anywhere else. What can I do to Access my files?

Harddrive specification:

Trekstor 100 GB
Format: NTFS

Please let me know If you need further information.

Unplug the USB drive from the USB port. Open a terminal and type "tail -f /var/log/messages". Plug in the USB drive. Post those messages to this thread. Also post the results of "sudo fdisk -l" when the drive is plugged in.

update:

ok now. It is a defective contact at the drive. Linux seems to be more vulnerable than windows to such things.

Bulls**t! When you have defective hardware it makes no difference what operating system you are using....

Just a thought . . if Windows doesn't see the faulty contact, won't you be MORE susceptible to data corruption?

I never had any luck with my Trekstor. I did get it to recognize but had lots of problems. Now l use a USB hard drive enclosure with a normal hard drive in it.
