Compatible 'all-in-one' printers

Postby barghest on Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:10 am

I've just upgraded a Toshiba Tecra A2 to Mint Linux, and I'm looking for a good, cheap, 'all-in-one' printer. I did try an old Dell A940 but it was designed for Windows XP, and the only workaround I could find online didn't work.

I see there is a Lexmark X2670 for sale at our local Tesco for £29.97. Is it worth looking at that?

Please don't buy Lexmark. Not only is their stuff complete garbage but they have not been very good at supplying Linux drivers. I recommend HP or Brother if you want good equipment and good drivers.

Any specific recommendations? I would prefer some fairly cheap 'all-in-one' solution

Nothing specific, both manufacturers have many models available in all price ranges. You will have to decide for yourself - visit their websites for a start....

I've also had real good luck with Samsung.

Well, I've got my old HP 5L running successfully. I'm looking at buying a HP deskjet F4280 and it seems to be supported - http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/mo ... eries.html - Anyone run into problems with it?

I have an HP printer, and the compatability is good, but the cost of the ink is eye-watering unless you buy refilled cartridges on the cheap. It would put me off buying another one if this one failed. :(

Have a look at this page:
