I have Acer Aspire 4520 and before installing Gloria I did a thorough test for compatibility (using live CD) including nVidia drivers. However on installation the my biggest fear came became alive when Gloria failed to detect my graphic card. What could have gone so wrong when live distro was working impeccably. What should I do now. BTW Jaunty works perfectly on the other partition.

...including nVidia drivers.
I didn't know it used the binary divers running from the CD, but I don't know for sure; I haven't checked the install that much, since it installed fine for me

--if you added the Nvidia binary drivers, how did you do that..
Running from the CD (live) is not such a thorough test, it is a more general compatibility test, which might require some setup after installation (and sometimes during, if there are errors)

when live distro was working impeccably
The installation actually tries to install into system directories and setup the hardware
--the CD (live) simply runs everything that has been preselected from a known file system on the CD..

You can get a VGA screen type by appending the line vga=792 (as an example) to the kernel boot line

  • ESC key
    e to edit
find the kernel line and add vga=???
--also since you are not getting a desktop, what do you see on the console that are errors on the boot/install
