External HDD Won't Mount...[solved]

Postby Gunmetal_Ghoul on Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:57 am

Yesterday I converted the 60 GB HDD from my old computer into an external hard drive and then used Gparted to format it as an NTFS so it can be used by our schools' computers. It runs fine on a Windows PC but the thing is that it wont mount when I hook it up to my Linux laptop and I get an error message.

Here's the error message:

Try removing it from your Windows machine via "Add or Remove Hardware" before connecting it to Linux. This sometimes works even when Windows says that it can't be removed and to try again later.

A few days back some teenagers broke into our church and stole some of our computers, the external HDD being one of the things they swiped. They didn't steal the drive's power supply though, and they left the older desktops behind. I was looking forward to putting that hard drive to good use....
