I am about to make TWO hardware purchases and I guess I need assurance that they will be
linux-compatible or not a big headach.
1) A Laptop that has SOUND Realtek ALC268 and Intel High Definition Audio and
VIDEO Intel GMA 4500M. (Laptop is Toshiba SATELLITE A300-048).
2) A motherboard that has sound Realtek ALC889A and LAN Realtek 8111C chips.
(Board is Gigabyte GA-EP45C-UD3R).

Re: Sound Realtek ALC268, ALC889 and Video Intel GMA 4500M
The laptop should be fine
There is at present some general problems with Intel in Gloria/Jaunty which will be solved in Helena/Karmic
Sound may have the general Intel HDA problems but in the unlikely case it has it's solved with the standard solution
Not so sure about the mobo but I think it will be OK - and I think that's Intel HDA sound too
