Getting my Logitech Webcam to work with Skype

Postby rreynolds63 on Sun Aug 09, 2009 8:54 pm

OK, to begin I am a TOTAL NEWBIE when it comes to Linux. I just installed Mint 7 tonight and it is my first venture into this. I have read the posts on finding the info on your webcam and checking to see if it is supported. I found that my webcam is supported and here are the specifics:

Bus 001 Device 009: ID 046d:0992 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate Deluxe

Now, would someone be extremely kind and walk me through how to get my webcam to be recognized in Skype?

Thank you in advance!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Hello, and Welcome to Linux Mint. According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams yours uses the uvcvideo driver. You can check if it's been loaded using the following command:
Code: Select all
lsmod | grep videodev

and if that shows it isn't loaded, try:
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe uvcvideo

for more info, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UVC
If you have a question that has been answered and solved, then please edit your original post and put a [SOLVED] at the end of your subject header
Hint - use a google search including the search term site:forums.linuxmint.com

I did some more research and I found the command to load it. It still didn't work. Then I did a restart and it worked. Thank you for your reply!
