Hi
just got a laptop - Acer 6930 that came with an Intel 4500HD video adapter
Tried to install Gloria x64, was a no go, got a black screen, everything was frozen, even in live mode
Got more luck with the x32 version
Installed it, everything went fine, everything is working but there is this little thing that annoys me
When it boots 2 out of 3 times the screen is shrunk to a weird 4:3 resolution that i can't change.I have two thick black bars on each side
After i reboot it comes back to a normal 16:9 resolution.
Does anyone know what do i have to edit or install to get my video resolution right.
Thank You!

Re: Intel 4500HD resolution issue
I have seen reports of problems with 4500
You give too little information for us to solve it
Is this with mint4win?
Post lspci (l is a lower case L)
Also post lspci -vvnn the section for the 4500 only It's a long list and that's the only interesting part (now)
You might try
In
Section "Device"
add
Driver "intel"
Reboot
I don't really think it helps and please do this after you have run the two lspci

Re: Intel 4500HD resolution issue
here we go
this is the lspci
On the other hand i've done some digging on the Inet and it seems that Intel has a long history of buggy drivers especially with the latest chipsets
Again this is really spotty and it is just annoying, it is working fine otherwise, i have Compiz working and i didn't notice any major issues (artifacts, windows opening just half ..etc)
Now instead of powercycling it if i fiddle with the Fn key and with external VGA output button, basically just cycle through the modes, it gives me the right resolution eventually. So i know know it's more of a bug than anything else and not specifically a Mint bug.
And no it is not installed through the win installer. It's a fresh install on its own separate partition

Re: Intel 4500HD resolution issue
On top of everything the X version in Jaunty/Gloria has some severe problems with some Intel based computers which I forgot to mention as your problem is different from what's experienced because of that flaw
