PulseAudio is a new advanced feature of Linux and FreeBSD
It is a sort of evil.
It has nothing to do on netbooks and old boxes.
see:
http://linuxhaters.blogspot.com/2008/10 ... audio.html
You can easily remove the evil pulse in this way:
sudo killall pulseaudio
cp /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio ~/
sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install -y esound esound-clients esound-common libesd-alsa0
sudo reboot
You have to select proper devices in your system sound preferences and apps too.
I have a particular interest in this card:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Your card seems to be similar.
If you try to install OSS4, I will help.
