Problem with Kubik MP3 player & USB connection failure

Post by Eccles »

I'm using Elyssa and I've just bought an 8GB "Kubik MP3 player. Unfortunately although all other USB devices (pen drives, Tom Tom, etc.) are recognised ok when plugged in, this MP3 player is not (the player knows it's been plugged in because it displays a message to that effect, but not a flicker of life appears in Mint in the form of a desktop icon or device under file systems, etc.)

The host PC, btw, is an Acer desktop with an AMD Sempron processor.

I did a "tail -f /var/log/messages" and the section of interest (I think) is as follows:

Sep 11 22:33:29 acer kernel: [ 2438.342509] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2

Can anyone help? I'm thinking this device has a strange partition or something that Linux can't handle (judging by the "sdf: unknown partition table"), but is there a (fairly safe!) work around? Kubik just tell me Linux is not supported but I think they're just taking the easy way out. I don't have ready access to a Windows box, so I'm thinking this player may well be unusable (it's a shame; it looks quite good but my older, simpler player just worked with no problems - like a pen drive in fact).

Cheers,

MB (Eccles)

Hi!

I do not know what that Kubik is, but
iRiver E100 can be reformated to FAT parition, or Linux, or else.
My friends did this, because Windows XP failed to recognize it.
With Ubuntu 8.04, there was not problems.

There is something in Russian (try to translate it with Google):

kubik - Просмотр профиля

System: "Ubuntu 7.04" Version: feisty. KDE: 3.5.6. Имеется USB HDD, на котором два раздела один ... Другие пользователи не оставили комментарии для kubik. ...

Автомонтирование USB-HDD, NTFS
OS: Linux 2.6.20-16-generic i686
System: "Ubuntu 7.04"
Version: feisty
KDE: 3.5.6
