[SOLVED] How I think I solved HP dv4-1290 no sound problem

Post by oddjob »

First of all, this was only possible thanks to everyone here, like Husse (I'm too tired, I can't remember other names!), and other Mint users who didn't give up until they solved their problems. Thank you all.

After cracking my head for searching this forum and Ubuntu forum for several days, removing/installing again salsa, editing several times alsa.base.conf and even re-installing Mint from start, I finally solved my problem, today.

My notebook info:
lspci gives me

Code: Select all

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
/proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec gives me:

Code: Select all

Codec: IDT 92HD71B7X
And finally aplay - l gives me:

Code: Select all

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
1. After having a fresh Mint install I updated it until I got 2.6.28-15 kernel.

2. I added the line:

Code: Select all

options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=hp-dv5 probe_mask=1 enable_msi=1
to alsa-base.conf

3. I rebooted and I got sound!

I hope I didn't forget any of the steps I took, I can't really think straight now, I'm tired.

If I added too much stuff to options in alsa-base.conf, could someone tell me?

Thank you very much everyone!

Going back to Windows for sound was going to be punishment for me!

I'm still having some issues though.

Sometimes when it boots the notebook beeps a lot. I need to find out if there is a boot log and how to access it.

There is no sound when I use the HDMI port. The notebook's manual says the Nvidia's chip controls the sound. I will do some search before I ask anything else here.

And sometimes the login screen locks up and I can't type anything, but I don't think it's related, I will search about that as well.

But I must say that everything else is perfect!
