at long last, someone posting that they have "No sound problem". I have seen so many posts lately about people who have lost sound that I began to think that I was on my own, as I have NO sound problem either.

Seriously, this is a seemingly common problem that probably you could solve if you go to the top right of this page and in the search box type something about lost sound. There are current threads all concerning the same issue, so hopefuly you should be set to go.

Hi all!

The re-loading of ALSA should solve 90% of problems.
But this powerful method can hardly produce a driver for soundcard.

To move further, we need the output of these commands:

aplay -l

sudo lshw -C multimedia

lspci -v

EDIT:
QOUTE: "I have NO sound problem either."
Hi Keith!

Let us make an experiment: install Skype, and we will test it.

Hi Keith!

This is a very interesting question indeed.
You can start a new thread: "Why does each update produce sound problems for many users, but not for all?"
and/or "Why do many users have sound problems and others not?"
And we can discuss this.

EDIT:
Ubuntu Multimedia and Video forum is here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=334

You may visit this forum and calculate the number of unsolved sound problems.

We have now 3 unsolved problems with the same sound card:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

Hi isthakur!

This is your soundcard:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

The same card is here:
No sound on my Dell 1440
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=33657

The problem is not solved yet.
We are going to try several methods.
You may try them too.
It might be very interesting to compare the results.

EDIT:
The same card is also here:
Got a list of supported laptop sound cards?
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=33116

This case is 50% solved:
1. The solution 1 (ALSA+ESound) works
2. The solution 2 (OSS4) does not work yet.

I could not get the solution for this problem and just happen to install Fedore 11. this solved my sound problem but now there are some other issues that troubles such as I am not able to play mp3 songs even vcd/and other video reports some codec missing.

I am still looking some one to solve the no sound problem. though the speaker icon appears on task bar in mint.
