Questions about configure/web cam

Postby rafou1er on Sun Oct 04, 2009 2:02 am

Hello everybody, I have changed manytimes my system and finally I prefer linux. I am waiting for mint 8 helena because I have a probleme with a webcam. SX-p840 1,3mega pixels is a standard and old model of webcam and Linux7 and wine doesn't work with her. I don't know to command in a terminal, (lost my password) and there's a bug when I try to install...

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Please don't cross post - the other post deleted
We would need the ID of the webcam
Run lsusb if it's a USB one and lspci -nn if it's a PCI one and post
Without a password you can't do much so I'll tell you how to reset it, but please be careful and don't rush when you do it
Boot the live CD
Navigate to /etc on the installed system - on your hard disk not the live CD
Right click > Open as root
Copy (right click) the file shadow
You will see something like
Code: Select all

You may have something other than 14384 in 14384:0:99999:7::: (probably not)
Replace what follows after root and Your_name and before .:14384:0:99999:7:::
with
U6aMy0wojraho
That is the hash for a blank password.
If this does not work delete .:14384:0:99999:7:::
Reboot into your installed system and set a new password (you find that option in Users and Groups in the Control Center)
You must use the terminal to reset the root password and of course you can use it to rest your password too

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
