Double internal webcam issue

Postby kurisutofu on Thu Oct 08, 2009 9:18 am

Hello,
I recently installed Mint Gloria on my netbook (Kohjinsha XS series) and I love it but there are 2 issues I cannot solve ...
One of them is the internal microphone but I found a topic on that so I won't ask again here.

The second one, although I could find some topic that look pretty similar, that didn't help. So I hope you don't mind me asking here.

Now for the issue, my netbook has 2 internal webcams, one on each side of the screen. But they don't work ...
I'm totally new to linux so I don't know how to find their manufacturer, model etc ... to find the driver.

I tried lspci and lsusb but then, I don't know where to read ...

I tried luvcview and it shows me a black screen. I tried it with the option -f yuy as suggested on a japanese website (kohjinsha is a japanese brand) but that didn't show anything either, only a black window ...

Is there someone here that could help me?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

And here the result of the lsusb command
Code: Select all

Just to update, with no break-through ...

I checked again and with lsusb, the output was different

Code: Select all
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 06b8:1020 Pixela Corp.
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 05c8:0115 Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink)
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 05e3:0716 Genesys Logic, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 14e1:6000
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04b4:6560 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C65640 USB-2.0 "TetraHub"
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0b95:772a ASIX Electronics Corp.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 160a:3184
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 04b4:6830 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C68300A EZ-USB AT2 USB 2.0 to ATA/ATAPI

The front camera should be 05c8:0115 Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., Ltd (Foxlink) , it is the fo23ff-58 pc-cam, mde by foxlink.

Also, using usbview, I can see i the treeview that the camera is under a hub, which is itself under an EHCI controller, is it relevant?
Code: Select all
- EHCI Controller
           |_ Hub
                |_ FO23FF-58 PC-CAM

I tried many soft like cheese, xawtv, camorama, vlc but it didn't work ... To me, it might be because of the EHCI controller but if I knew, I wouldn't be asking, right?

Hope someone can help me with that!
