ATI 9600

Post by reddace »

Will the latest version of LM support ATI 9600 All-In-Wonder cards? I have a older machine and it only works with the Ubuntu 8.04 version. That is to be able to use 3d effects and some games. Also ATI catalyst center. Thanks for the reply in advance! Michael

That mainly depends on the video driver available from ATI
Linux mint 7

In your case (old machine), is more likely the problem, if you can't run either Ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) or Linux mint 7 (gloria) on your system

In terminal, check
  • inxi -F
    --short list of all hardware
    lspci
--if the inxi command is not available on Ubuntu 8.04, or you can't install it

I possess an ATI 9600 (mobility M10) and while I'm happy with how Mint 7 Gloria runs on this laptop, 3D games are out. :(

Code: Select all

~ $ inxi
CPU[-Single core AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (UP) clocked at 800.000 Mhz-] Kernel[-2.6.30-020630-generic x86_64-] Up[-2:05-] Mem[-386.7/487.3MB-] HDD[-40.0GB(15.4% used)-] Procs[-125-] Client[-Shell-] inxi[-1.0.6-]
~ $ inxi -G
Graphics: Card ATI RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10] X.Org 1.6.0 Res 1024x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer Mesa DRI R300 20060815 AGP 8x TCL GLX Version 1.3 Mesa 7.4
FWIW.

[Edit:]This needs updating: with a little tweaking and investigation some 3D games are in, including Bloodfrontier which runs marvellously well, and Warzone 2100. Not all games needing acceleration will work well or at all, but some definitely will.
