RESOLVED - hp dv4-1222nr no headphone sound

Postby amars1983 on Wed Dec 02, 2009 1:26 am

I've just installed mint 8 and my sound works perfect through my speakers, but I get nothing through my headphone jack. I've tried a lot of possibilities in my alsa-base.conf, but nothing seems to work. I just stumbled over this page:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=514bf54cd8c7f172816d3c003a6d022e9165a29b

It looks like it was a patch, but I'm not quite sure what to do. If anyone has suggestions, ideas, or needs the output of anything, please let me know. Thanks in advance for any help.

I added the following lines to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and then did sudo reboot:

Code: Select all
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv4-1222nr

I've seen a lot of different model options for this before, but I guess this one was a patch for kernel version 2.6.31, so if you have this version or higher, these lines should fix the problem. Sometimes it takes just a little more poking around to find the answer.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Glad you solved it and welcome to Mint
This line
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-dv4-1222nr
can have an enormous number of models (one by one :))
The trick is to find the right one like you did

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
